Hypothesis:
If a person being tested is a male, then they will have a better reaction time (than
females).
females).
Design
Our design for this challenge was very simple. All we needed was the NXT programmer, a touch sensor (in port 1) for the person being tested to use, and a light (in port A) for the person being tested to react to. The design did not need anything else due to the reason of not having to do any "fancy" tasks. Instead we were using the NXT programmer to test humans a recieve results.
Program
This is the program we used during this challenge. It shows that the light will turn on at a random time during a 10 second period. After this, the person being tested will press the button and a time will come onto the screen telling their reaction time in milliseconds.
Data
Our data proved my hypothesis correct that boys have a faster reaction time than girls. Finding the average of both boys and girls reaction times, the boys resulted in 260 ms and the girls with 309.9. This is larger span that what I suspeted. Due to this large span in between could possibly have been because of not enough data. Also, we tested more girls than guys which could have been a factor. When testing, the guys seemed to have more interest in trying to beat eachother with reaction time and beat the girls. For this reason, they ended up taking the test multiple times, while the girls were fine with taking the test once, or twice at the most. I would think that this would be a big factor in the results because by this the boys were constantly improving their results.
Light vs. Sound
If we were to change the light in this program to a sound, I think everyones reaction time would be affected. Light travels faster than sound so if the light was replaced with a noise, then everyone would have a slower reaction time.
Speed of sound = about 770 miles per hour
Speed of light = 650,500,000 miles per hour
Speed of sound = about 770 miles per hour
Speed of light = 650,500,000 miles per hour
